Indonesian Minister of Creative Economy Supports Gailbook in Developing the Fashion Sub-sector Through Global Collaboration

Jakarta, October 1, 2025 – The Creative Economy Ministry of Indonesia is exploring collaboration with fashion platform Gailbook in order to spur a new wave of export of Indonesian fashion designers into global markets. The strategic plan will focus on opening access to world fashion hubs such as Dubai, Paris, and London — supported by intellectual property protection and better data exchange.

“The Creative Economy Ministry is ready to collaborate to strengthen data, simplify regulations, and create ‘Creative by Indonesia’ as the momentum for export support activities, especially in the fashion subsector,” said Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya during an audience with Gailbook co-founder Nadia Irwan at the Ministry’s office on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Gailbook is primarily focused on being a curated e-retail fashion platform and has connected 40 Indonesian brands with international markets since August 2024. It plays a role in bridging marketplace business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) channels, strengthening Indonesia’s creative industry, opening global market access, building an integrated fashion ecosystem, and driving international export growth.

The Minister emphasised the importance of registering international trademarks as an element of intellectual property protection. He also noted the opportunity for collaboration including data sharing, trade show participation, and empowering local artisans.

“Each brand on Gailbook must ensure they already have intellectual property certification for trademark or patent protection so that no one can pirate or duplicate the fashion products. Registering an international trademark is also an important step so that there is no illegal use by other parties,” added the Minister, accompanied by the Head of the Data & Information Centre, Reslyana Dwitasari.

At the same time, the Minister’s Strategic Issues Advisor, Gemintang K. Mallarangeng, spoke of the structural ‘hexa-helix’ approach that the Ministry consistently employs.

“The Ministry of Creative Economy always uses the hexa-helix approach covering six elements for collaboration — starting from government, academia, business, associations or communities, media, and financial institutions. This is done to respond to the challenges faced by the creative industry,” explained Gemintang.

Likewise, the Director of Fashion, Romi Astuti, also said there is potential for collaboration between the Ministry and Gailbook through the programme Akselerasi Ekspor Kreasi Indonesia (ASIK) which links local potential with global opportunities.

“We welcome this very much and hope to collaborate further. The ASIK programme has entered batch 2, whose export market share aligns with Gailbook’s development for Malaysia and Singapore. Before any export exhibition, there will be business matching that brings brands together with global supply chains,” said Romi Astuti.

Nadia Irwan added that there are four areas that can be collaborated on with the Ministry: facilitating export data & export regulation access, collaborating on international promotion programmes (trade shows), featuring or promoting cultural heritage, as well as empowering artisans.

“Gailbook’s hope going forward is to open stores in several countries that are already fashion centres such as Dubai, Paris and London. We also want to build a community where each fashion brand not only lists products, but has a solid customer base in each of those countries. In addition, we want to empower artisans so that their products can be sold and accessed in international markets,” said Nadia Irwan.
